Vacation

Mom and Dad are on vacation. I am trying to behave and keep my furry brothers and sister out of trouble. Our house is really quite. Some of my human siblings moved out. We were happy for them to get their own place, but we really miss them.

My human brothers think they are in charge of us furry kids while my parents are away and we "let" them think it. I hope Mom and Dad have a wonderful trip, but boy I miss them. I am quite spoiled and things are not the same when they are not here.

Hope you all enjoy the picture Mom sent me last night. She found a furry friend on the sand dunes and thought I might enjoy seeing him.

Update's

It's a new day! My leg still aches. Dad has gone to pick up more pain medications for me. Arthritis is NO fun, at all! I feel for all of you who struggle with this disease. I am sending Nanuq to visit our friends at Central State Hospital, tonight. I know he will bring hope and happiness to many.

I have an update on Jim Moss. Mary called Mom last night. After a battery of tests, the Doctors were baffled. All tests were normal, yet clearly Jim had two Cardiac episodes in the presence of doctors and staff.

Both Mary and Jim believe the prayers on his behalf brought about healing. I share in their belief. I praise GOD with Jim and Mary! Thank you, dear friends for storming the heavens with prayer.

URGENT PRAYER REQUEST

Please pray for Jim. Jim is hubby of my human friend, Mary at Divinely Designed. Jim is in the hospital with a Cardiac Episode. He is stable and will have more tests on Monday morning.

Ms. Mary is a very special person in my furry life. She is faithful to pray for me, but most importantly she is responsible for encouraging my mom to allow me to blog. You see, my mom really doesn't like technology and was content to write my stories in a journal.

Ms. Mary said, "Oh NO! Sitka has a story to tell."

Thankfully, after much pushing, shoving, and a lot of encouragement and prayer mom surrendered.

Ms. Mary is also a prayer warrior. She believes strongly in the power of prayer. Please join with me in prayer for she and Jim.

Nanuq's Visit

I sent Nanuq on a therapy visit last week. He is a capable and loving guy. He has been faithful to stand in the gap while I am coping with arthritis and other medical issues.

Nanuq was released to walk freely among the patients, with supervision. As Mom and Day watched carefully, Nanuq made his way to patients who are too shy to come to him. He found those hidden in corners and out of the way places in the large room. Gently, he nudged their knee or hand and quietly they would reach and pet him.

Nanuq's approach is much different than mine. I stroll in talking (howling) with the patients. Nanuq quietly and gracefully approaches the patients. He is able to reach patients who may never come over to us when we are there together.

Sometimes the encouragement and love we give the patients is not visible to the naked eye, but only visible through the heart. Nanuq's unspoken words speak louder than my verbal communication with the patients.

Thank you, Nanuq for continuing to follow GOD's lead for our family. Dog Therapy has become more than community service for us. We see GOD's hand working in and through each visit.

Please continue to pray for my knees and hips, but most importantly for the ministry we have with those who are hurting beyond our comprehension.

Just Dropping In

I am dropping in today to let each of you know how much I appreciate your prayers. I am currently taking my antibiotics and pain medication. I am up and moving around. Mom and Dad are watching me carefully, because I am not fully using my right rear leg.

Thank you for your continued prayers.

Prayer Request

Last night, Mom and Dad took Nanuq to Central State Hospital, in Petersburg, Virginia for Dog Therapy. Nanuq enjoyed his visit. He spent time with lower functioning patients. He walked from one to another sharing furry love with each of them.

While Mom and Dad were gone, my leg began to hurt. My human brother gave me 1.5 tramadol. I am prescribed 2.5 (50mg) every twelve hours when needed. I was miserable and when Mom and Dad arrived home at 9:00 pm I let them know how I felt.

I whined and barked at Mom, grabbing at her hand. Mom knows when I act in this manner it means I am in pain and she needs to do something. Mom quickly assessed my leg. She realized I was not using my right rear leg at all and it was a little warm to touch. Mom gave me 1 tramadol. Mom knew I needed the full dose.

After laying in Mom's arms for about 2 hours I began to feel some relief. During the night I whined a few times as I changed positions, but slept well in between.

Mom is working today. Dad helped me into our SUV via my doggie ramp and off we went to see my favorite doggie doctor, Dr. Richard Jordan.

After my exam, Dr. Jordan prescribed an anti-biotic and a different pain medicine. He, too felt inflammation in my knee.

Please pray my knee becomes stronger. I hate pain and Mom and Dad hate watching me in pain.

Thank you, my prayer warrior friends. You guys are awesome. I am amazed you love and follow me.

Celebrating Freedom

We celebrated our nations freedom calmly and quietly, this year. Nanuq is very afraid of thunderstorms and loud noises. Mom decided it would be best to keep us home.

Dad took my human brothers, wife, girlfriend, and little people for pizza and fireworks. They enjoyed the festivities of the day and returned home to snuggle with us before bed.

We enjoy the freedom of doing what we choose daily, yet many only think of it on holidays (Independence Day, Memorial Day, etc.). Today, I would like to thank all those who serve our country and who have sacrificed to keep my furry body safe.

Those serving our country are near and dear to my family's heart. My human brother is currently a Marine. My Dad lost his father when he was a tiny boy in WWII. Many of our friends have love ones serving in different sectors of the Armed Forces, as well.

You may think, "what does this have to do with dog therapy and this blog?"

Well, I furry ole Sitka will tell you. I am able to go into hospitals, nursing homes, and freely walk the streets of many towns and communities, because there are many protecting me. I live in a country where my parents can praise GOD and give him credit for all HE has done in and through our therapy dog ministry.

When children ask my mom, "why is he so big?" Her answer is very simple, "God made him this way." Simple answers to questions of adults and children, yet if we lived in another country we could not share them openly.

Today, I would like to celebrate the freedom we all enjoy daily. May GOD bless each person serving to protect us and the families they represent!
