Sitka Answers Dog Therapy Question

Leslie and Otto asked:

"May I ask, does Mom ever get nervous about going to a psychiatric hospital? Have you ever had a bad experience with a patient?"

On our first visit, Dad was nervous, but Mom was not. My Mom has a bit of a medical background and knew what to expect. Dad had never been exposed to psychiatric patients and was unsure. It has been a "huge" learning experience for Dad, but he enjoys going with us.

We have not had a bad experience. However, Mom is constantly watching the patients for reactions. The patients we see time and time again may act different on each. It depends on how they are doing that day.

Not all Mom's and Dad's are comfortable in this setting. Thankfully, my parents follow GOD's lead.

Woofs and Wags,

Sitka

How could someone not want to just walk right up to you and wrap their arms around you and hold on.

The patients are very unpredictable but your parents' alertness and calm reactions will make any trouble not occur. May the Lord always surround you all with His angels.

Andrea thanks for stopping by me and my sisters blog. I love that you work with Therapy Dogs, what a great way to give back to this world. Sitka just seems to be super special. Thank you to both you and Sitka. Also it is great that you know how to keep a watchful eye with psychiatric patients, the reality is they need the therapy as much as the next patient and what you do to help is immeasurable.

Thanks for answering my question! I know I'd be nervous and in constant prayer. Of course, I imagine that your dogs would protect you if something happened.

Otto must know that I'm writing to you. He's laying here with his head on my feet!

May God's hedge of protection continue to surround you as you comfort and help those who are not well.

Andrea, I sort thru my closets and cupboards about twice a year. I am always amazed that I can get rid of something, whereas six months earlier I couldn't bear to part with it, lol!

I can see that humans might not know what to expect but animals just seem to have a sense about them, you know?
