Return To Dog Therapy
Tonight, Nanuq and I had a wonderful visit with the patients at the Psychiatric Hospital. Several of the patients wanted their picture taken with us. The staff prints them a copy and they are able to put the picture on the wall in their rooms.
One of the patients laid in the floor between Nanuq and I. It was kind of like a Malamute and Samoyed sandwich of sorts. He was a very large, but gentle man. We had not seen him in the past.
Nanuq and I are there for an hour and a half each visit. Tonight, I had to go potty about half way through our visit. We were on the second floor behind many sets of locked doors. One of the staff members took Dad and I down the back steps and out to a courtyard.
As I returned back into the room, I rounded the corner and went to a gentleman riding an exercise bike. He always carries his newspapers. He never says anything and he holds his head down. I had to pull Dad a little to get to the man. Dad was unsure about the approach, but I knew this gentleman needed me. I stood there for a little while as he rode the bike and then came back to the rest of the group.
Mom noticed as she sat in the floor with me, my new friend was full of smiles and holding his head up as he rode the bike. He kept eye contact with us until it was time for him to leave. I am still amazed when I see GOD use me to make someone smile.
The patients were as happy to see me as I was to see them. I will go back to visit in a couple of weeks. Dog Therapy Rocks.

No! You rock Sitka! And Nanuq!
How can people not be changed after meeting and seeing you. God bless you for how you change people for the better!
Love and Hugs ~ Kat
How wonderful, Sitka, that you made that man smile! Good work!
May I ask, does Mom ever get nervous about going to a psychiatric hospital? Have you ever had a bad experience with a patient?
I hope you're behaving while Mom & Dad are away!
Sitka, you and Nanuq are the BEST!
I love how God uses you in the lives of others. Not only in person but here in the blogosphere too. :)
Hi Andrea! I'm glad you're feeling better! (I just read all your posts that I have been missing.) Sitka really is a beautiful dog.
This is truly beautiful....God does use pets to break through barriers the human cannot! I believe that is what he has in mind for Romeo and I....just don't know how it will all play out? Please pray for God's plan to come to fruition. Blessings to you! Luanne
Lovely Alaskan Malamute you have there! :) And Samoyed - you have to check out my art website as I have many drawings of the spitz breeds and you may enjoy them. :) http://margraveartstudioii.tripod.com - it's also as a link on my blog.
God bless and keep up the great works.
